A little about me…
I say a little about me because there is so much to tell and we all have stories that can fill up many pages. I think a bio is so much more than dates and credentials, so I want to give you just a quick snapshot.
So we will start at the beginning, at least my beginning which was February 3, 1968. From what I remember that was a good day. I grew up in Newfoundland and I will fast forward a little through my childhood as I grew up in a Christian home, my Dad was a Pastor, so I was a PK.
My teenage years hit in the 80’s and they hit hard, not just because of the 80’s music and my mullet, but due to the fact that I really wasn’t serving God.
My family moved from Newfoundland to Ontario in 1987 to plant the Markham Church of the Nazarene. I went to a service at family camp in Pefferlaw, and when I heard the preacher Stephen Manley give an altar call, I accepted the call and went forward to kneel at the altar. I left that altar that night a changed man. That was July 1988.
Next I prayed, a lot, and read through the Bible several times. I just couldn’t get enough. Through that process I sensed God calling me into youth ministry. So, I loaded up the truck
and moved to Beverly, (that must have been an 80’s flashback) it was Winnipeg, I loaded up the truck and moved to Winnipeg.
Canadian Nazarene College was in Winnipeg at that time. During the time at college I worked as a youth Pastor at Fort Garry Church of the Nazarene.
In 1995 I moved from Winnipeg to Calgary. There were no openings for pastoral work at that time in Calgary so I did the next closest thing, I went into sales.
In the industry I was working was an organization known as ARDA, which stands for American Resort Development Association. I earned a four-year degree program known as Associate Resort Professional, comprising of sales and marketing and received that education through programs in the United States. Ministry and sales management, they go together, if you think about it, don’t they? Yes they actually are very complementary.
In the year 2000, (after the world didn’t end in the Y2K fiasco), I headed back into ministry. I served in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Collingwood, On., as well as Fort Erie, On.
Then through extenuating circumstances I took a leave of absence from pastoral ministry, as you all know life does throw curveballs and sometimes you need to adjust.
That period lasted between 2005 and 2012.
In 2012 I moved my boys back to Collingwood, On., still in sales management.
While in Collingwood I committed to taking a couple of hours every day, just seeking Him, as healing was needed in many areas of my life.
I began listening to God, and I started receiving many insights. I started writing them down because I didn’t want to forget what I was learning. I started writing and praying and that turned into a book, it was called Deep Spiritual Thoughts.
In August of 2013 my journey took a wonderful turn of events as God brought Trilbi into my life. We got married in June 28, 2014. It is such a God story that it just may turn into another book. God ordained that whole process!
After Trilbi and I got married we started a new ministry journey together.
In 2015 at family camp, back in the place where I first gave my heart to Christ, we received affirmation through prayer to go back into full time ministry in the Church of the Nazarene. We set up a meeting with the District Superintendent and started the process to head back into pastoral ministry.
God had other plans and wanted me to work in Alberta, in prison chaplaincy. After years in Prison ministry I received a call from the DS in the Atlantic District.
Trilbi and I prayed a lot about this opportunity and had positive affirmations and confirmations over and over again. So we thanked God for this ministry opportunity, and the rest of this story is to be continued…!
What we really know about this whole process is: God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
My Life verse is: Philippians 3:13b-14 and sums up who I am and where I am heading. It says: … But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press
on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Trilbi’s Life Verse is Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God…
Hopefully that gives you a little more of an idea of who the Pastor and his wife really are! And don’t forget to Press on…!
